Change the Game: workshop on Sports Vision

As part India Vision Institute’s (IVI) Faculty development and continuing professional development initiatives, IVI organized Change the Game: workshop on Sports Vision at the NSHM Knowledge campus in Kolkata on 25-26 September and Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, Delhi on 28-29 September 2014.

Training in Sports vision improves the visual abilities of sportsmen required for securing excellence in the sport they play, including eye-hand coordination, dynamic visual acuity, tracking, focusing, visual reaction time, and peripheral vision. Accordingly, optometrists need to customize training programs for each game. Sports vision also has much to offer in treating and preventing sports injuries among sportsmen and children alike.

“Addressing a range of issues including the importance of vision in sports, specific visual considerations for individual sports, and benefits of vision therapy for excellence in sport, the two-day intensive workshop on sports vision highlighted the significant contribution optometrists can make towards securing excellence in sports and promoting safe sports”, said the IVI CEO, Mr Vinod Daniel, on the occasion.

“Through a range of intensive training programs for eye care professionals, IVI is committed to making a contribution towards excellence in sports”, Mr Daniel added.

The workshop was facilitated by Professor Graham Barclay Erickson, a Diplomat in the Binocular Vision and Paediatric Optometry Section of the American Academy of Optometry, Fellow of COVD, and Professor at Pacific University College of Optometry.
