As part of India Vision Institute’s (IVI), Eye See & I Learn, initiative 30,000 school children from underprivileged background will undergo vision screening and those identified with refractive errors will receive free spectacles. The project funded by Cooper Vision through Optometry Giving Sight was launched by screening 650 children from Government Adi Dravida Welfare Higher Secondary School and provision of free spectacles to 43 children. An additional 100 children from Advent Christian Primary School in Palavakkam were also screened and all diagnosed with refractive errors will be provided free spectacles. Mr. Arnab Sarkar, Country Head, Cooper Vision and Mr. Vinod Daniel, CEO IVI were present in both schools as part of the launch in Chennai on 1 March 2016.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sarkar said “good vision is every child’s right and key to over-all well-being. Cooper Vision is delighted to support Eye See & I Learn initiative of IVI and we hope our small contribution will go a long way in ensuring good vision for children, particularly from underserved communities”.
“Many school children from underprivileged communities usually do not have an access to basic eye care because of lack of accessibility & awareness. IVI believes in proactive screening of vision on a regular basis to ensure healthy vision for them’, said Mr Daniel. Acknowledging their support, Mr Daniel thanked Cooper Vision towards supporting IVI’s mission to eradicate ‘preventable’ blindness, particularly among children.
Eye See & I learn is part of the global Our Children’s Vision campaign led by IVI in India to screen the vision of ten million children in partnership with several eye hospitals over the period 2016-2020.So far 13,658 children have been screened and 875 free spectacles have been provided across several states in India.
