IVI Launches Fourth Batch of Young Leaders Program (YLP)

India Vision Institute (IVI) launched the fourth batch (2016-17) of the Young Leaders Program (YLP) at Hyderabad with a two-day workshop from 11 to 12 June 2016. It was also time to bid farewell to the previous YLP group with the concluding workshop in a three-workshop program.

“IVI is mentoring the next generation of young leaders in Optometry and eye care to take up the challenge of eradicating preventable blindness in India – especially to provide better accessibility of eye care to the socio-economically disadvantaged communities in both the rural and urban areas.” Mr Vinod Daniel, CEO of IVI, said on the occasion. “Selection for YLP is on a competitive basis to ensure the most deserving get mentorship opportunities,” he added.

A panel of distinguished resource persons spoke at the workshop on a range of subjects including Leadership in Community Based Practice; Empowering Youth Leadership; Taking Eye Care to Rural India and many more. Speakers included Dr Santosh Moses – Operation Eyesight Universal, Mr M. V. Ramachandradu - WASSAN, and Mr Arun Daniel Yellamaty - Youngistaan Foundation. The workshop also included leadership games and activities along with a group-discussion round. YLP Alumni Mr Uday Kumar and Ms Sheethal Pai also recounted their YLP journey during the workshop. 

The fourth batch comprises:

2. Niranjan Sharan - Lawrence & Mayo, Hyderabad
3. Nirav Mehta - Hari Jyot College of Optometry, Navsari
4. P. Hari Kumar - L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad
5. Phani Krishna Athreya - Amity Medical School, Gurgaon
6. Ramesh Shukla - Riti Eyecare Hospital, Rewari
7. Riswan Rasheed - Giridhar Eye Institute, Kochi
8. Sneha Aggarwal - R.P. Centre of Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi
9. Venkatesh L - Shreya Eyecare Centre, Hyderabad
10. Sandhya Shekar - India Vision Institute, Chennai

These young professionals will acquire leadership skills through firsthand experience by undertaking projects. IVI also actively engages with the YLP alumni through possible participation in various IVI initiatives. 

The outgoing batch of Young Leaders (2015 – 2016) spoke about the leadership qualities they would use as a leader in their profession, the same was video documented and can be viewed on the IVI YouTube page.  

IVI acknowledges the support of ‘Brien Holden Vision Institute Academy’ and ‘Optometry Giving Sight in funding the program’

Young Leaders Program: IVI Young Leaders Program aims to motivate and train young eye care professionals to take up a leadership role in advancing optometry and eye care delivery in India. Given the sheer magnitude of challenges in eye care delivery in India, the program equips participants to approach challenges with a fresh perspective. The year-long program comprises a series of three two-day workshops.
