Welcome to our brand new website! I am happy to be able to connect with you. Many of you have been together with us on our journey to provide people across India access to a pair of spectacles. I am conscious that some of you may not be fully aware of our work and mission. Since we commenced our work a little over a decade ago, IVI has transformed over 1 million lives across 22 states in India.

At the heart of our organization lies the profound commitment of our trained optometrists to taking care of the vision health of the needy and underserved. Good and healthy vision are essential prerequisites to personal well-being and progress of a society, people and nation.

With a passionate team of dedicated professionals and volunteers, India Vision Institute has been working hard to prevent avoidable blindness, provide essential eye care services, and advocate for policies to prioritize eye health.

The website will take you through our mission, programs and activities guided by the principle that every person deserves the opportunity to see the world with clarity and good vision.

Through strategic partnerships, community outreach initiatives, and professional development programs, including encouraging young leaders and professionals and promoting the research culture, we hope to address the many challenges that face us in our way forward.

We look forward to seeing you join us as we work towards a world free from uncorrected refractive errors and to see every Indian in need with a pair of glasses.

Who we are

India Vision Institute (IVI) works to enhance eye health accessibility to the remotest corners of India. Working in 23 states, we focus on preventing avoidable blindness. Our trained teams of optometrists work to extend timely assistance to underprivileged communities and school children.

The need

Vision impairment and blindness affect millions in India, but it is a fact that nearly half of these people could have avoided such conditions if they had access to timely intervention, including vision screenings and spectacles.

The prevalence of myopia among school-age children is growing at an alarming pace, highlighting the need for urgent, corrective measures.

What We Do

IVI's comprehensive services extend to underprivileged communities, offering access to vision screenings and distributing corrective glasses to both children and adults.

We also work to prevent road accidents caused by poor vision, and reduce fatalities. We provide Defensive Driving Training to commercial vehicle drivers and truckers to make our roads and highways safer.

We work to create awareness on mental health among drivers. It is an oft-ignored aspect that leads to fatigue and stress, which affects alertness on the road.

We have conducted free vision screenings for over a million underprivileged individuals, including half a million children across 23 states.

Join us in our mission to prevent blindness and promote eye health for all. Together, we can make our vision of hope a reality.

What it Means to have Better Vision

Improved vision helps children be able to do well in academics and succeed in life.

Clearer vision in adults would mean a well-equipped workforce with capability to boost productivity and economic opportunities.

1.1 million free vision screenings opening doors, opportunities

Working to improve visual health and provide access to a pair of corrective glasses to those in need, IVI attained a significant milestone on January 10, 2024 with one million free vision screenings across India, bringing hope of clear vision and brighter futures to urban poor and the underprivileged in remote communities.

Vidhi, a Class 8 student in a Delhi school, became the one millionth beneficiary when received a pair of corrective glasses from the visiting Australian Parliamentarian, Dr Andrew Charlton MP, who also distributed corrective glasses to community and children at an event in Delhi.

“It is good to visit an IVI project and see the work being done to benefit disadvantaged communities, including children. I am happy that the beneficiaries are able to lead a better life, with improved work potentials and better grades for children in school.  Congratulations to IVI for achieving the significant milestone of one million vision screenings. I wish IVI and the team all the best in future.”

Vinod Daniel,
CEO, India Vision Institute

"We thank our partners who have been with us in our journey to achieving this milestone. With 150 million visually impaired still in need for access to vision screenings and spectacles, we are aware of the work ahead as we endeavour to reach as many underprivileged people as possible.  Refractive error correction through an eye check and a pair of spectacles can help improve vision health of people. A simple pair of glasses can make children do well in class as well as in outdoor activities, and improve their future prospects. In adult beneficiaries, clear vision will boost productivity and their income earning potential.”

Dr Rashima Asokan

Head - Occupational Optometry Services and Vision Enhancement Clinic, Sankara Nethralaya

"Independent practice is always a dream for professionals. The step forward is a nightmare due to the challenges in the market. Through IVI’s Young Leaders Program, we gained knowledge from experts, from their ground experience. The sessions were simple and had taken away the fear of independent practice. Confidence levels have been boosted for all participants.
Thanks to IVI"
