IVI free spectacles for 613 boys at Santhome school, Mylapore

The Australian Trade Commissioner in Chennai, Munish Sharma, today distributed free spectacles at the Santhome Boys Higher Secondary School, Mylapore, as part of an India Vision Institute (IVI) initiative.

Along with guests of honour, IVI CEO Vinod Daniel and school Principal Rev. Bro. Johnson, Mr Sharma distributed spectacles to children with refractive errors. 

Mr Sharma said, \"I am extremely happy to be part of this worthwhile initiative by IVI. The campaign will help the children see better and be productive and useful citizens of tomorrow.\"

IVI CEO Vinod Daniel said, \"from 2,315 boys screened in the school by IVI earlier in December 2018, 613 are being provided glasses.\"

\"IVI\'s focus has been to provide access to screening and spectacles for children and adults in underprivileged communities.\"

\"IVI has to date conducted over 422 vision screening programs in and around Chennai and other cities in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Pondicherry, West Bengal, New Delhi, Haryana and Mizoram. Over 1, 76, 376 individuals from underprivileged communities (including over 1, 28, 549 children) have been screened and free spectacles distributed to 22, 813 individuals (including 11, 984 children)\" Mr Daniel noted.
